
Begin with Travel Basics
Before you leave visit your healthcare providers
- See your doctor for prescriptions, medical advice and vaccinations
- See your dentist if you are planning a long trip.
- Check your health insurance
- Pack a travel kit with: doctor's name and phone, insurance policy and number, medical history, current medical condition if necessary, waterproof sunscreen, first aid guide, bandages , toilet paper, feminine hygiene products and condoms, pins, needles and fine tweezers.
Traveler's Conditions
Jet Lag Prevention
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol while traveling.
- Drinks lots of water.
- Adopt the new time schedule as soon as possible
- Expose yourself to bright sunlight for several hours each day.
Motion Sickness Prevention
- Take Benadryl(r) 30 minutes before travel that may cause motion sickness.
High Altitude Sickness Prevention
- When ascending rapidly to 10,000 feet and above, take Diamox for one to two days before and during the ascent.
- Before you depart, consider taking a trial dose of Diamox at bedtime to see how well you tolerate it.
Diarrhea prevention
- Avoid Salad, uncooked vegetables, fruit you can't peel, dairy products, peanuts, raw eggs, raw seafood, shellfish.
- Avoid poorly cooked or unhealth food from street vendors and cheap restaurants.
- Avoid food that has been sitting for hours
- Drink Purified or bottled water.
Disease Prevention
- Malaria (Tropical and subtropical countries)- can be prevented by wearing protective clothing that fully covers your body. Sleep with a mosquito net coated with permethrim. Use insect repellent containing DEET. Stay in well screened areas from dusk till dawn.
- Vaccinations- Tetanus, Diphtheria, Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Polio, Influenza and Pneumococcus, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Rabies.
